The site is located along the lagoons of Aveiro and the design program was to rehabilitate existing silos into students' residence for the Univeristy of Aveiro. The core idea of the design was to maintain the original structure and integrate the program by adding a light structure. The structure is designed in such a way that the original form is more visible even with new interventions. The proposed intervention strives to maintain a balance between the old massive structure and the new light elements. Corten Steel is the material chosen for two main reasons - The structure being close to the sea (avoid further (?) rusting) and the rustic color palette of the steel being in coherence with the brick facades of the University of Aveiro.
The added light structure serves different function
South Facade - Balconies for the rooms.
West Facade - Extension of the Kitchen Space also having the view of lagoons.
North Facade - Cortel steel screen for privacy.
